Nutritional Support
The Exeter CF dietitian team work with both children and adults to support CF care, providing continuity and a friendly face as you transition between services. Nutrition plays a vital role in the health of people with cystic fibrosis – a healthy nutritional status and body weight is vital for maximising and maintaining lung function. We support from the early days of infant feeding, introduction of weaning right through to adulthood.
We advise and provide information for patients on all aspects of their nutritional needs: assessment of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (enzymes), supplementary nutritional support (supplement drinks and tube feeding), fat soluble vitamin therapy and salt supplements, cystic fibrosis related diabetes, sports nutrition and healthy eating.
We work closely with patients and families providing practical advice on food choices and how meals can be adapted to meet their CF needs. We work closely with our CF Diabetes Specialist Nurse in the diagnosis and management of Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes and the additional dietary needs this brings.
